About James

Though I always intended to design and make my own, I actually trained as a restorer of antique furniture. What better way to learn lasting construction technique together with the requisite hand skills?

I was "Student of the Year" of 1994 for my HND course at Rycotewood College in Thame, and won the prize for the best piece of replica making.

From Rycotewood I went to Ronald Philips Ltd. in Mayfair - a leading dealer of 18th and 19th century English furniture. Thence to Buckingham Palace where I had the privilege of restoring some of the finest furniture in the country. I left Buckingham Palace in 1998 ready to set up my own furniture making business. I work both to commission and make pieces to my own design.

I am a member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen and of the Devon Guild of Craftsmen.
